El factor espacio
No es curioso que en estos tiempos de virtualidad, el espacio físico sea cada vez más importante? En lugar de una lógica dispersión de eventos culturales por la geografía de un país, estos se concentran cada vez más. Una ciudad como Barcelona va cargada de eventos culturales que se hacen una competencia rabiosa los unos a los otros. Uno avanza menos de cien kilómetros y lo sorprende un desierto cultural donde no hay vida más allá de invitar al grupo de moda a la Fiesta Mayor. ¿Cuál es la razón? ¿Cuestión de infraestructura? ¿Es necesario montar algo en una gran ciudad para demostrar que has triunfado?
Isn't it curious how -in these virtuality times- physical space is getting a lot more important? Instead of a logic dispersion of cultural events throughout the geography of a country, they tend to concentrate more and more. A city like Barcelona is full of cultural events which furiously compete among them. If you move less than 100 km you'll arrive to a cultural dessert where there is no life beyond inviting a trendy band for the major city holidays. Why is that? ¿A question of infrastructure? ¿Do you need to arrange something in a big city to show that you have succeeded?

El cantante jorobado
En un registro más popular que el anterior, es conocido el chiste del jorobado que cantaba: ? En mi pecho llevo una flor? y era respondido con ?y en tu espalda una maceta?. Es una manera de ver la complejidad (o complicación, a veces es simplemente complicación) del proceso que lleva a la creación de proyectos significativos, relevantes y, por qué no, divertidos a partir de buenas ideas.
It is well known the joke of the hunchbacked singing: ?I bring a flower in my breast?, and the answer: ?in your back a flowerpot?. It is a way of stating the complexity (it would be a lot of times better said: complication, simply complication) of the process leading to the creation of relevant and funny projects coming from good ideas.

Flores y semillas
En la línea del comentario anterior, me gustaría recuperar una cita de Bob Metcalfe, el inventor de Ethernet sin la que no existirían tantas cosas, sin ir más lejos este blog que estamos leyendo...
Bien, Metcalfe escribió un artículo cuyo título era "la invención es una flor, la innovación es una semilla". Hippismo aparte, creo que la cita es muy iluminadora: no es suficiente con tener ideas, imaginación, etc. Es necesario tener una estructura que permita que esas ideas tomen fuerza y lleguen a convertirse en algo real.

Keeping hippism appart, I think that the quote is really illuminating: it is not enough to have ideas, immagination and so on. It is also necessary to have an structure which allow these ideas to get strength and to become something real.

Imaginación, mainstreaming y cintas de vídeo
Me temo que tener imaginación, marcar la diferencia o provocar emociones no es suficiente. Necesitas (necesitás) estructura, ingeniería y recursos. Necesitas (necesitás), en este complejo mundo, tener un plan y saber modificarlo, adaptarte. Necesitas (necesitás) conocer y negociar con/en el mainstreaming.
Las cintas de vídeo pasan a la historia.
I am afraid that to have imagination, to mark the difference or to provoke emotions is not enough. It is needed structure, engineering and resources. It is needed, in this complex world, to have a plan and to know how to modify and adapt it. It is needed to know and to negotiate with mainstreaming.

There es un original espacio web pensado como mundo virtual. ¿En qué se diferencia de la multitud de chats con personaje en mundos 3D que inundan internet? Básicamente en que There ofrece emociones al usuario. No se trata de chatear, simplemente, sino de chatear mientras participas en una carrera de skateboarding. Y There es un espacio inmersivo que ofrece muchos temas internos sobre los que charlar. Un modelo que seguramente imitarán muchas empresas en breve.

Hay que darse cuenta que la única manera de "marcar" la diferencia en el sector cultural (o social, o educativo, o...) es tener propuestas imaginativas, impactantes y emocionalmente provocativas. Parece ser la forma de sobrevivir a un mundo de excesiva demanda, en el que todos hacen de todo.

El famoso mainstreaming europeo solía cocerse entre el Rin y el Sena con periodos vacacionales en el oscuro Báltico y los débiles ríos Mediterráneos. Ahora prácticamente se abre al Danubio y entrevé a lo lejos el Volga. La pregunta es si el mainstreaming podrá absorber en una gran corriente las nuevas aportaciones o se disgregará entre nuevas reclusas, diques y meandros.
