2nd International Meeting of Women from neighbourhoods on social and/or town-planning transformation. “Roots of woman”
Cities are always changing, but not always the citizens are real protagonists of this change. There are cases where the transformation comes from the impulse and initiative of women who are decided to act in their immediate environment. They are the ones who lay the foundations of the future in the area where they live.
The Adrianas Association was created in 2001 in the district of La Mina in Sant Adrià del Besòs (Barcelona), with the aim of interesting women in taking action to improve the coexistence.
After four years, we are satisfied with the work we have done:getting involved in all that directly or not, has to do with women, and above all our commitment to participate in the social and town-planning transformation of our district.
To make it possible, we dedicate to the aspects that mainly determine our existence: coexistence, participation, education and environment. For that reason, this meeting wants to show the local experiences carried out by groups of women and their associations around these topics in cities around Europe. At the same time, the meeting will promote the debate and the dialogue between different realities lived by protagonists with similar problems. Proposals, solutions and possibilities must rise from here to continue transforming cities in a closer democratic sense.
